The First Olympic City

In each city in which I founded a parliamentary office I try, by a local project, to bring a positive change in the life of the citizens. I launched my fist project in my native town, Miercurea Ciuc. Together with my colleague, Csaba Sogor, we have decided to found the first Olympic winter sports center in Romania.

Problem
Unfortunately, the winter sports do not constitute one of the main preoccupations of the Romanian citizens during their spare time. The main cause is represented by the acute lack of facilities to practice different sports as well as the high costs involved for practicing them. In addition to this, our sportsmen are very often forced to choose very expensive sports centers from abroad. In the past, there have been some other initiatives for the creation of an Olympic winter sports center in the city of Miercurea Ciuc. Unfortunately, all the initiatives have remained simple projects.

Project
Our project consists in coordinating all the proposals and launching a program in the medium and long term which would end with the opening of the first Olympic winter sports center in Romania. This center will include sports bases from the city of Miercurea Ciuc as well as from the entire county of Harghita. Up to now, there have been many discussions with the local authorities and there have been established a series of objectives in the short and medium term.

One of these main objectives is represented by the passing of the Vakar Lajos city skate rink under the administration of the local Council. At present, I am waiting for the necessary documentation to start the discussions with the local authorities. Likewise, I have sent a letter to the OMV concern which is renowned for being one of the companies that sponsor the construction of a ski jumping track in Europe. Currently, we are waiting for an answer to our demand to consider the region of Harghita a place for a possible investment. My colleague, Csaba Sogor, is dealing with the invitation of the experts in the region in order to draw up a viable project for attracting investments.
